Late afternoon, the day after 18 inches of snow and ice fell in Bucks County, PA. Trees that hadn't yet dropped all of their leaves were taken down from the heavy weight of the storm on their branches. This American flag draped between a pair of trees hung proudly, showing off the wear and tear of the many storms it has withstood.

A few days before the 4th of July weekend at Folly Beach, SC. Beachgoers with umbrellas, coolers, tents, blankets, and chairs were snatching up some sandy real estate to call their own for the next few hours. The air is filled with sounds of summer. Laughter, lifeguard whistles, dogs barking, and seagulls overhead are drowned out by the ocean waves gently rolling in on shore before rolling out again.

This was a view outside my window that I was very familiar with. I watched the seasons change around this amazing tree. Once the autumn leaves had fallen it seemed to hold out its limbs as if to symbolically protect the trees within its reach.

Another passion of mine is growing orchids. This Phalaenopsis variety was sitting by the window, and I was amazed by the shadows of color that were created by the afternoon light shining through the blossoms.

The brilliant play of light on the water, on the stone, and in the trees sets the stage. My eye was drawn to the bit of sun catching the line of the fly fisherman waiting for his catch.

Some of my fondest memories are from the time spent on our family vacations in the Caribbean. Early mornings on the beach drinking Jamaican coffee, listening to the waves crashing ashore, and hunting for that "treasure" in the sand. During one visit, I captured this mother also enjoying her early morning walk with her son.

Lake Michigan is an amazing span of water, and on these early morning walks you find the most beautiful stones washed ashore.

There is nothing like spending a week at Monte Sano State Park in Alabama to get back to basics. Its a reminder of what is really important in life. Family, friends, nature, sunshine and rain...this spring day had it all!
